Back by popular demand … this former British diplomat and renowned scholar and commentator reflects on a century of global conflict and its lessons for American leadership.
Dr. Ray Raymond is a former British diplomat and a former adviser to then British Prime Minister, Tony Blair. During his 20-year diplomatic career, he worked on US-UK, US-EU, and NATO issues, with a focus on UK-US defense policy, US-EU trade policy and financial services, and the diplomatic aspects of counter-terrorism policy. In addition, Dr. Raymond covered US internal affairs and US Presidential and Congressional politics. From 1996 to 2005, he also served His Royal Highness The Duke of York as a speechwriter and policy adviser during His Royal Highness’s frequent visits to the United States.
Since 2005, Dr. Raymond has taught government, international relations, and grand strategy at the State University of New York and the US Military Academy at West Point. A recipient of several fellowships, including an Andrew W. Mellon Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Yale University, Dr. Raymond served, in 2009, as Thomas Hawkins Johnson Visiting Professor at the US Military Academy. He has received numerous awards for his academic, diplomatic, and humanitarian work, including, in 2000, investiture by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth with the Order of the British Empire and, in 2006, the civilian equivalent of the Distinguished Service Medal by the U.S. Department of the Army.
