Secondary Education Sponsorships

Be Visionary.  Be part of helping today’s youth meet tomorrow’s challenges successfully.  Invest in Colorado Springs World Affairs Council’s High School Symposium.

Why do today today’s youth face very different challenges than those faced by students just a few years ago?  Major changes to the world in which our children live include having to work in a global workplace, where one in five U.S jobs is tied to international trade.  Technological advances mean more global work teams, where knowledge of language and culture will be essential to success as economic globalization continues.  Issues that are endemic to all human beings, such as environmental degradation, disease, and energy and water issues, are impossible to separate from the rest of the world.  And the demographic changes in diversity that continue to develop in the United States are a mirror in diversity to the rest of the world.  Successful citizens will need to be knowledgeable about the world around them, and be able to communicate in languages other than English.  It’s vital that the education of the next generation is adequate in order to seize new opportunities and face the economic and security challenges of the 21st century.

It’s recognized that American students are performing well below students in other developed nations in science and math.  But research is showing other disturbing signs – American students are also lacking in basic knowledge of world history, international geography and global issues.  One recent study indicates that 88% of young people ages 18-24 cannot locate Afghanistan on a map of Asia, despite more than ten years of U.S. engagement in that region.  Our failure to adapt to a world in continual evolution will risk our children’s future, and our position as an economic and political superpower.

The Colorado Springs World Affairs Council is the only local organization in our community that exists solely to create and sustain non-partisan study, discussion, and public participation in international affairs.  Our council has made the education of our local high school students on global affairs one of our top priorities in fulfilling our mission.  We are uniquely qualified to provide the education so greatly needed by our youth.

Your investment in the Colorado Springs World Affairs Council High School Secondary Education will help us to provide our youth with the opportunity to live in a better, safer world.  Be one of the visionary members of our community who will ensure our children’s position in the world they will live in.  Our failure to close the gap in students’ knowledge about global affairs and restore American excellence in science and math will mean declining quality of life for U.S citizens in the future.
